Tips
- Distance students — sceen-sharing software (”Elluminate”)
- Here is a link from Harvard that discusses the install/setup process for Elluminate: http://courses.dce.harvard.edu/~dceconf/webpage_sample.html
- The install takes a bit of time, but I (John) have verified it both on Mac OSX and on Windows XP.
- Note that we will be e-mailing you the conference link; we will e-mail it to the students assigned to a particular section; if you are a “guest” for a particular section, send an e-mail just in advance of section commence to the appropriate person (Monday, 5: 30 PM: harlan dot crystal at gmail dot com; Wednesday, 5:30 PM: keithlmorrison at gmail dot com; Wednesday 6:30 PM: amy dot newell at gmail dot com).
- We will be using a phone teleconference for audio; not the build-in audio.
- More will come here if we notice any that requires comment.
- Dealing with the Course Blog
- If you want to discuss the course, Ruby, or Ruby on Rails, the best place to do so is right on the course blog. To post comments, you must be registered at Disqus (http://disqus.com/). Please be advised that anything you post is quasi-public; we recommend not using your real name, or at least not including your correct last name. Having said that, it would be nice if you could post in such a way that the teaching staff knows who you are. A good strategy would be to use your first name and last initial.
- You can subscribe to the blog at this RSS feed: http://e168f08.plugh.org/feed/ For comments, subscribe to this feed: http://e168f08.disqus.com/latest.rss
- Disqus also provides a means to see all comments in once place: That’s here: http://e168f08.disqus.com/
- If you want to get an e-mail whenever a blog post is added, try ZapTxt: http://www.zaptxt.com. Use the RSS feed for posts and the RSS feed for comments, as above.
- We have a Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/e168f08. This is primarily for announcements, but if you have a pertinent comment, reply to the list. In general, though, keep the discussion to the blog (using Disqus).

Understand that you don't click on that link. You should right-click on it (or control-click), select "Properties" and then cut-and-paste the link into the subscription (add subscription) mechanism for your feed reader of choice. I use Google Reader, at http://www.google.com/reader/
